TODOS 2021 Virtual Conference Keynote

The keynote speaker for the TODOS 2021 Virtual Conference will be Dr. Julia Aguirre, University of Washington, Tacoma. She is an outspoken advocate for equity and social justice and is a passionate educator who will charm and challenge us, cause some disequilibrium, and inspire us to take action to make mathematics more humanizing, just, and equitable for our nation’s young people. The virtual conference will be held June 21-23, 2021. Promote the conference among your colleagues!

TODOS Live!

The first TODOS Live! of the new year will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 4:00 PM (Pacific Time) titled Developing ELs’ Math Language and presented by Jim Ewing. This motivating session reveals how you can develop English Learners' math language. There is a myth that math is universal, but ELs can better develop mathematical arguments if we develop their math language. Experience an "EL simulation!" Register now!

A Restful Holiday and Happy New Year

Have a restful holiday the remainder of this month with less zoom classes and/or meetings. Reflect on the past year in terms of assets instead of deficits. Thank your friends and family who have supported you throughout this difficult year. Continue to advocate for underserved students who need greater access to online learning. Finally, take time to care for yourself and to stay safe and healthy. Happy New Year!

CRR Presents the 17th Annual MEAD Conference

Registration for the MEAD Conference is now OPEN! The UArizona CRR is hosting the conference virtually on Saturday, January 23rd. The keynote speaker is Dr. Jennifer Bay-Williams, author of Math Fact Fluency and co-author of Teaching Student Centered Mathematics. MEAD is free for all Arizona Teachers and $125 for everyone else. Spread the word by sharing the flyer and conference webpage.

CANMEE Lesson Study Course

The California Action Network for Mathematics Excellence and Equity (CANMEE) is offering the CANMEE Equity Commentator Course from January to May 2021. The goal is to gain and deepen equity commentators’ understanding of how to support a lesson study team's inquiry into mathematics education with an equity lens. See the flyer for additional information. Cost: Complimentary for California Educators and $25 for out-of-California Educators.

New Mathematics Teacher Educator Podcast

The newest MTE Podcast titled, Interventions, Tools, and Equity-Oriented Resources in the MTE Journal features Emily Elrod and Valerie Faulkner from North Carolina State University, who are two of the authors of an editorial in the September 2020 issue of Mathematics Teacher Educator, the journal co-sponsored by NCTM and AMTE. All 22 episodes of the MTE Podcast can be found on this website!

In Memoriams

In memory of Rocío Benedicto and Gilbert Cuevas: Both Rocío and Gil served on the TODOS Board and both were passionate about promoting equity, excellence, and social justice. Gil was a founding member of TODOS in 2003, and Rocío was on the original planning team for TODOS’ Professional Development program on Social Justice.
