ELL and Statistics Education

TODOS members Larry Lesser and Matthew Winsor published the first research study on ELL issues in the context of statistics education in the current (November 2009) issue of Statistics Education Research Journal. While the paper appears in this highly selective research journal, much of it is also intended to be accessible and useful to teachers, most notably the section called “Recommendations for Teaching.” Read the article without charge or password at here.

Elections Coming Soon!

TODOS has increased the number of Directors (formerly Members-at-Large) on the Board from three to five. The larger Board is needed to lead the work of TODOS. Two Directors will be elected early next year. More information will be sent in January.

TODOS at CBMS (Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences)

TODOS was represented at the CBMS meeting, Dec. 4th, in DC by Miriam Leiva. CBMS is comprised of leaders of national mathematics and mathematics education organizations. The focus of the meeting included the mathematics education of teachers and small group discussions designed to give feedback and recommendations on the Common Core Standards Initiative of the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers.
