2020 TODOS Conference Keynote Speaker

Need Financial Support for TODOS 2020 Conference?

Are you looking for financial support to attend TODOS 2020? TODOS is offering two different awards for PK-12 educators to support attendance. Check out the criteria and submit your application by March 1, 2020. (1) 2020 Cathy Kinzer Memorial Professional Development Award (must be a TODOS member as of September 1, 2019). (2) TODOS 2020 Teacher Award - available for up to 9 teachers (must be a TODOS member as of January 1, 2020).

TODOS in FOCUS

TODOS is starting off the year with an exciting new campaign – TODOS in FOCUS. The first focus theme through the Spring of this year will include quotes, articles, videos, and other professional learning opportunities. The theme? Agency! This focus leads to the TODOS 2020 Conference theme: Activating Agency for Student Access, Engagement, and Advancement in Mathematics.

TODOS 2020 Program Art Contest

Students can design the cover of the program for the upcoming TODOS 2020 Conference. Any K-12 student can submit pictures of their art work to the committee. Create a “poster” that reflects the mission and goals of TODOS. Posters should be 8.5” x 11”. Additionally, mail posters, c/o TODOS Poster Contest, to P.O. Box 25482, Tempe, AZ 85285-5482. All entries must be received by February 28, 2020 so start drawing! Contest details here.

It’s Time for the TODOS Equity Awards

This year TODOS will honor two individuals for their work and commitment to equity. Nominations are welcomed for both the Iris M. Carl Equity and Leadership Award and the Iris M. Carl Equity in Teaching Award. Nominations are due March 15th. Up until this year, TODOS honored individuals for the Iris M. Carl Equity and Leadership Award. Information and nominations for these awards will be available on the TODOS website by February 1st.

TEEM 11 Is Now Available

TEEM 11 is available for download or in Current Publications for Members. This issue has three externally-reviewed articles covering topics that are particularly relevant to TODOS members, such as equity considerations in group work and topics related to dual language and multilingual settings, all of them in relation to mathematics education. The editors are preparing the second special issue of TEEM to be distributed at the TODOS 2020 Conference.

Noticias Sent to Members

Announcement of the publication of the Fall 2019 Noticias was sent to members last week. Articles include "Teaching Mathematics to Students with Disabilities" by the editors, a message from the president, the article "The Cibola Greenhouse: A Rigorous Problem-Solving Laboratory" by Anthony Rodriguez of Providence College along with news about the TODOS 2020 Conference, the 2019 Iris M. Carl Awardee, Student Awards, and other relevant TODOS news.

NCTM Centennial in Chicago, April 1-4, 2020

NCTM turns 100 in 2020. Join thousands of mathematics education professionals in Chicago to celebrate at the NCTM Centennial Annual Meeting & Exposition. In addition to compelling sessions, networking opportunities, and valuable content, there will be special events and surprises to mark the occasion. Join the attendees in Chicago as NCTM starts its second century. This only happens every 100 years! The meeting will be held at McCormick Place.

Submit a Proposal for the NCTM Regionals

The Call for Proposals submissions for the NCTM Regional Conferences and Expositions 2020-2021 is open now. The NCTM Regionals will be held in Tampa (November 11-13, 2020), Baltimore (February 17-19, 2021), and Dallas (March 25-27, 2021). Go to the website for information about the conference strands at each of the regionals. The deadline for proposal submissions is the same for all three regionals: March 1, 2020.

High School Math Courses/ Educational Achievement

The structure and teaching of high school mathematics courses present a critical barrier to math learning, educational achievement and equity. The practice of tracking has a particularly adverse effect on students of color and low-income students. 2020 Nominations for PAEMST Open

The 2020 Nomination Drive for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching is open. Do you know a K–6th grade science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teacher whose impact goes beyond the classroom?
