TODOS Live!

On Saturday, September 8th at 8:00 AM PDT, José Francisco Sala García will present Promoting Algebraic Thinking through Visual Pattern Tasks for English Language Learners. Motivate English learners in algebraic reasoining by fostering productive struggle, language development, and exploring visual pattern tasks. Participants will anticipate the ways students will solve pattern tasks, consider how to support students’ learning, and interrelate social and analytic scaffolding. Register today.

Fostering Support of Mathematics Learning Grant

TODOS and MET collaborated on this grant with the purpose of providing financial assistance to PreK-12 schools for professional development to increase understanding and expertise in fostering support of multi-language development when teaching mathematics. This year’s recipient is North Springfield Elementary School in Springfield, VA. Congratulations to Ms. Nichole Lindgren for submitting her proposal. Read the abstract.

TEEM 9 Is Available for Members!

Teaching for Excellence and Equity in Mathematics (TEEM) 9 is available for members to download. All attendees at the TODOS 2018 Conference will receive a hard copy in their conference bags. Authors of the three articles include the following: Craig J. Willey and Stefanie D. Livers; Sara Morales, Terri Sainz, Kathryn Million, and Kathe Kanim; and Annela Teemant, Brandon J. Sherman, and Amy Wilson. Take time to read the articles!

Chapter Proposals for Teaching Mathematics to ELs

Luciana de Oliveira and Marta Civil are working on a new book, Teaching Mathematics to English Language Learners: Preparing Pre-Service and In-Service Teachers.  They are interested in case studies of mathematics teachers and action research projects that highlight mathematics teachers working with ELs. See call for proposals for chapters for more details. Deadline for proposals is September 1, 2018.

CAMT Is Coming in July! Volunteer at the Booth!

The Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching (CAMT), the statewide Texas conference for mathematics educators will be held July 16-18, 2018, in Houston. TODOS Strand speakers include Larry Lesser and Susie W. Håkansson. TODOS will also have an exhibit booth at CAMT. If you plan to attend, volunteer your time to staff the TODOS booth and share your passion for TODOS with colleagues and friends.
