Conference Proposals Due September 30!

Submit a proposal for Activating Agency for Student Access, Engagement, and Advancement in Mathematics which will be held June 25-27, 2020. You can choose to submit for an Imagine Session (40 minutes), an Innovate Session (60 minutes), or an Investigate Session (90 minutes) that is focused on your knowledge and experiences in advocating for the mission and goals of TODOS. Submit today!

It’s Calendar Time!

Make sure that you have “calendared” the TODOS 2020 Conference on June 25-27, 2020. The conference will again be held at the Scottsdale Resort and Spa. The resort features five swimming pools, a fitness center, championship golf course (but it will be hot), a spa, and various local restaurants. Close by are Old Town Scottsdale, a variety of restaurants, casinos, lots of shopping, etc. Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport is about 12 miles from the resort.

You Can Publicize the TODOS 2020 Conference

If you are presenting at any local, state, or regional conference, share information about the TODOS 2020 Conference by including this slide in all of your presentations or distributing these fliers at workshops and events. Hopefully, you are planning to attend the event and will consider submitting a proposal (deadline is September 30th). Thank you for being a member of TODOS. Encourage others to join!

TODOS Takes to the Airwaves! 

TODOS has a new communication forum to promote its mission and goals: podcasts. The first two episodes of the TODOS podcasts are now available. Episode One features a conversation with Julia Aguirre on committing to social justice, and Episode Two features the authors of the TODOS Blog Ethnomathematics Is Mathematics for ALL. Take time to listen and subscribe! Be on the lookout for future podcasts.

TODOS-MET Grant

TODOS and NCTM are funding its third annual grant, Fostering Support of Mathematics Learning in Multilingual Classrooms. The grant provides financial assistance to PreK-12 schools for in-service to increase understanding and expertise in fostering support of multi-language development in mathematics. Grant maximum: $4000. You must be a TODOS member by May 1, 2019 and NCTM member by October 12, 2019. Deadline: November 1, 2019.

TODOS 2020 Pre-Conference

Change-Agents Taking Action for Equity in Mathematics Education is the title of the TODOS 2020 Pre-Conference that will be held 8:00 a.m – 3:00 p.m., June 25, 2020. Registration fee is $100 if you are also attending the TODOS 2020 Conference, and $150 if you are attending the Pre-Conference only. Registration will be available in mid October. Look for information in the October Enews. View the objectives for the Pre-Conference. Bring a team to attend.

NCTM Regionals Booths in Boston and Nashville

Are you attending the NCTM Regionals in Boston (next week) or Nashville (the week following)? Volunteer at the NCTM Equity Affiliates Booth to support TODOS and equity in mathematics education. Sign up for Boston (September 25-27) and/or Nashville (October 2-4). If you are busy and won’t have time to volunteer, you can still stop by the booth and say hello to the NCTM Equity Affiliates.

TODOS Booth at Salt Lake City Regional

The final NCTM Regional will be held in Salt Lake City October 16-18, 2019. TODOS will have an exhibit booth and is soliciting volunteers to staff it. Support TODOS and encourage friends and colleagues to become TODOS members. If you wish to volunteer for four hours or more at the TODOS Booth but didn’t sign up for the conference, contact the editor to arrange for an Exhibitor's Badge that will also allow you to attend sessions.

Volunteer at the OCTM Conference TODOS Booth

TODOS will have an exhibit booth again at the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference and will sponsor Student Awards. The conference will be held at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, OH. All TODOS members attending the OCTM conference are asked to volunteer to staff the TODOS booth for two hours. Share the benefits of being a TODOS member to friends and colleagues. Sign up today!

Nominations for TODOS Director Opens Soon

Nominations for the office of Director will open on September 27, 2019. Consider nominating TODOS members who are qualified to serve a three-year term as Director and who will commit to the mission and goals of TODOS. Submit the form to the Chair by November 22, 2019. Self-nominations are appropriate and encouraged. Any nominee must be a TODOS member in good standing for at least one year prior to November 22, 2019.

Travel Grants to Attend ICME-14 in Shanghai

Travel grants are now available to attend the 14th International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME-14), to be held in Shanghai, China, July 12-19, 2020. Detailed information is included in the ICME travel grant announcement. Applications are due October 15, 2019. Go to the ICME-14 page on the NCTM website for additional information. This is an opportunity to discuss issues with international mathematics education leaders.  

Ed Trust Report on Broken Mirrors Series

Broken Mirrors: Latino Student Representation at Public State Colleges and Universities details how much work states have to do to increase the population of Latinos with a college degree, from enrolling proportional numbers of Latinos in community colleges and four-year colleges and universities to ensuring Latinos are just as likely as their White peers to cross the finish line once they start college. Download the report and follow the Broken Mirrors series.

AMTE Conference registration

The 2020 Annual AMTE Conference will be held February 6-8, 2020 at the Sheraton Grand Downtown Hotel in Phoenix, AZ--a new location and venue for AMTE! Go to the website to link directly to the online registration system, as well as hotel information and a link directly to the Phoenix Sheraton Grand Hotel reservation page. Remember to log into the AMTE website.

NCSM Elections

NCSM members are encouraged to vote for NCSM Officers by October 15th for the positions: President Elect, Second Vice President, and Regional Directors for Central Region 2, Eastern Region 2, and Western Region 2. TODOS members on the ballot include the following: Paul Gray and Steve Viktora for President Elect; Sharon Rendon for Second Vice President; and Rosa Serratore for Regional Director Western 2. Vote today!
