Much of the March 2019 Enews is devoted to TODOS events or events involving TODOS members during the week of NCSM, NCTM Research, and NCTM in San Diego. This includes presentations, exhibit booth, members’ meeting, student awards, salsa party, Game Night, and MET celebration. All members are encouraged to support TODOS events and member presentations. You can always find additional information at the TODOS Booth during NCSM or NCTM. NCTM Pre-Conference by TODOS: April 3, 2019: 8-4
Teaching Mathematics for Social Justice: Quality mathematics and social justice in mathematics teaching are imperative if equity is to exist in our classrooms. In this session, participants will experience social justice activities and leave with tools to foster thinking in mathematics through a social justice lens, classroom tasks with a high level of cognitive demand, and a plan for taking action on belief systems and structures, curriculum and instruction, and partnering with families and communities. Pre-registration is required.

2019 NCTM Lifetime Achievement Award
Congratulations to the 2019 NCTM Lifetime Achievement Award recipients: Johnny Lott, Peg Smith, and Lee Stiff. Two of the three, Johnny Lott and Lee Stiff, are TODOS members! The award, selected by the Mathematics Education Trust, honors NCTM members who have exhibited a lifetime of achievement in mathematics education at the national level. The recipients will be recognized during the NCTM Opening Session with a MET Celebration afterwards to honor and celebrate them.

TODOS Live! March 26th
Join Gloria Brown Brooks and your TODOS colleagues as the following topic is explored: What is Social Justice in Mathematics to You? The session will begin at 4:30 PM (Pacific time) on Tuesday, March 26th. Register today! There has been much effort around social justice in mathematics. One of the NCTM Pre-Conference sessions is Teaching Mathematics for Social Justice. TEEM Volume 7 focuses on Mathematics Education: Through the Lens of Social Justice.

Game Night 2019 in San Diego
TODOS and Benjamin Banneker Association along with the NCTM online community will sponsor NCTM Game Night 2019. This event will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd from 8:00 PM – 10:30 PM at the Indigo Ballroom DH at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. You can attend the MET reception to honor the 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients and then go to Game Night afterwards. No RSVP is needed. Spread the word.

A Yearly Tradition: TODOS Salsa Party
It's time to bring your dancing shoes and join the TODOS community at the Salsa Party. The party for TODOS members and their guests will be held on Thursday, April 4th from 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM in Sapphire A at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. Whether you are an accomplished dancer or a beginner, the Salsa Party welcomes everyone on the dance floor as part of the TODOS Community.

TODOS Annual Members’ Meeting
The annual TODOS Business Meeting and Student Awards will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd from 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM in Aqua 310 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. Outgoing board members will be acknowledged and new board members welcomed, followed by the student awards ceremony honoring San Diego area students. Come meet with the TODOS board and honor outstanding students.

TODOS Booth Volunteers Solicited
Volunteer two hours to support the TODOS Exhibit Booth both at NCSM (April 1-2) and at NCTM (April 4-6, Booth #1124A) in San Diego. You can also volunteer during the TODOS Salsa Party on Thursday evening. TODOS/MET Grant
TODOS and NCTM are funding its third annual school-based professional development grant, Fostering Support of Mathematics Learning in Multilingual Classrooms. The grant provides financial assistance to PreK-12 schools for in-service to increase understanding and expertise in fostering support of multi-language development when teaching mathematics. Grant maximum: $4000. You must be a TODOS member by May 1, 2019 and NCTM member by October 12, 2019. Deadline: November 1, 2019.

NAEP Mathematics/Reading Assessment Frameworks
The National Assessment Governing Board is currently leading updates to the Mathematics and Reading Assessment Frameworks for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). The frameworks guide development of the assessments and define what knowledge and skills students need in each subject area. Final updates to the frameworks will be reflected in the administration of the 2025 Reading and Mathematics assessments. Learn more about how you can provide feedback on this important framework.

CANMEE Lesson Study Convening in Temecula
The California Action Network for Mathematics Excellence and Equity (CANMEE) will be holding its Third Annual Convening on April 11-12, 2019, in Temecula, CA. CANMEE has been making inroads in making equity an explicit component of lesson study. Two public lessons are included in the tentative agenda, and these lessons incorporate an equity-based research theme, mathematics goal, focal students, lesson hypothesis, and equity-based teaching practices. TODOS is a partner in this effort.

WestEd’s English Learner Intensive Summer Institutes
WestEd is offering a series of three-day summer institutes in AZ, NY, and CA that focus on deepening an understanding of high-quality instruction so that all students experience success and designed to ensure that all students develop academic literacy, analytical practices, and a deep understanding of the mathematics content.
