What are the best approaches for teaching mathematics to newcomers to the U.S. who are English learners? In June 2020, Marta Civil, Zandra de Araujo, Carlos López Leiva, Erin Sylves, and María del Rosario Zavala wrote a Brief for The Answer Lab at USC Rossier. The focus is on students who are new arrivals to the United States and are emergent English speakers, known as "newcomers." You can find references for this brief here.
