TODOS President’s Statement
Under the leadership of Founding President Miriam Leiva, a need was recognized resulting in a mission to advocate for equity and high quality mathematics education for all students—in particular, Latina/o students. Today I think that mission must go beyond the walls of the classroom to advocating for fairness in life and freedom from discrimination and marginalization. It’s been stated that America is currently dealing with two viruses, COVID-19 and racism. … See the President’s full statement of TODOS' recommitment to equity.

Self-Advocacy or Defiance in Protests? Depends
Are the actions self-advocacy or defiance? America is experiencing in real time two very different “protests” based on skin color. In the US, self-advocacy is characterized as “defiance” for people of color, while defiance is characterized as “self-advocacy” for White people. Unfortunately, for many students of color, this is a lesson they learn early in our school system. This EdTrust article identifies the discrepancies and urges schools to ignite change for society--students of color can and should advocate for themselves.

Are You Racist? ‘No’ Isn’t a Good Enough Answer
Most of us, says Marlon James, are non-racist. While that leaves us with a clear conscience, it does nothing to help fight injustice in the world. We can pull off being non-racist by being asleep in bed while black men are killed by police. We need to stop being non-racist, and start being antiracist. This short video, “Are You Racist? ‘No’ Isn’t a Good Enough Answer,” articulates why being non-racist is not addressing social justice. Watch this with colleagues and have an extensive discussion of how to move forward.
