A Collective Call to Action: Nov-Dec Reading

The November-December reading suggested by Robert Q. Berry, III, is For White Folks Who Teach in the Hood... and the Rest of Y'all Too: Reality Pedagogy and Urban Education  (2016) by Christopher Emdin. The author discusses different types of pedagogies grounded in the resources that communities can offer for teaching. The targeted questions: What are ways teachers can gain access to community resources (human & material)? How can we make sense of this for mathematics teaching and learning?

Happy Holidays! Happy New Year!

May this season be a time to reflect on 2018 and think about all of the actions you took to promote equity and excellence in mathematics education. How effective were your actions? What else could you have done? This is also a time to think about what actions you want to take in 2019 that will provide access to high quality and cognitively demanding mathematics to all students, particularly Latina/o students. What actions will you take to make a difference in lives of underserved students? When will you begin? The time is now!
